Unwired Dance Theatre makes immersive and playable experiences - for remote audiences, IRL and virtual stages, galleries and more unconventional sites. Our work questions our sense of empathy, especially when mediated through technology, and often explores what remote connection could look like.

From networked wearables to XR, we like to work at the intersection of dance and technology to create unique and thought-provoking experiences, with meaningful audience participation at its core.

Unwired Dance Theatre is based both in London (UK) and Bordeaux (France), with collaborators all around the world.

Clemence Debaig

Unwired Dance Theatre is directed by Clemence Debaig who is a dance artist, designer and creative technologist. Her work explores notions of control, empathy and intimacy, questioning how technologically mediated interactions influence human behaviours.

She often works with telepresence, networked wearables, Mocap technology and VR. With a background as a dancer and creative technologist - and a previous career as a UX designer - she brings a unique perspective to choreographing interactive and participatory experiences. In the past years, her work has been presented at various venues and events, including Ugly Duck, Kallida festival, Oxo Tower, Tramshed and Open Online Theatre.

She is also a lecturer and researcher at Goldsmiths University, currently exploring how motion capture technology can enable virtual collaboration between dancers in remote locations - involving Mavin Khoo (Akram Khan Dance Company) and Alexander Whitley.
